This moon sculpture was one of a pair of sculptures that was commissioned by XS Aviation, an airline finance company. They are on display in the boardroom of their London Office.
They wanted their sculptures to be created using airline scrap and I discovered a scrapyard in Birmingham that had a large amount of airline metal pieces that were ready to be melted down and recycled. I drove a 160 mile roundtrip, not really knowing if they would have anything suitable. To my surprise, I discovered a series of very heavy, irregular shaped discs that were extremely sharp. When you cast titanium, these discs were what was left at the bottom of the cast.
The amazing blues and mauve colours were created by the intense heat. I took the ones I could lift and made my way back to the studio very happy.
